Dockery's Presents: Charleston Jazz Series
Down Beat International Critics Poll placed Tony Monaco in the top five jazz organists for the years 2005-2011. Monaco captures all the excitement and hard driving power of the immortal Jimmy Smith, with whom he studied. His album, East to West reached #4 on Jazzweek's Top 100 for the year 2006. Guitarist, Howard Paul, is one of Savannah's best known jazz musicians. He has performed with such stellar names as Bob James, Jack Wilkins, and Frank Vignola. His recording with Tony Monaco on East To West reincarnates the excitement of the ground breaking Jimmy Smith/Wes Montgomery recordings of the 1970's. He was inducted into the Savannah Coastal Jazz Hall of Fame in 2011. Robert Lewis is the Director of Jazz Studies at the College Of Charleston, a featured reed soloist with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, and the band's Music Director starting in 2019. He is an exceptionally adept improviser on tenor and alto sax and flute. He is also one of the most in demand jazz musicians on the vibrant Charleston jazz scene.
