Charleston, SC 29414
Dating back to 1738, Drayton Hall is a relic to Charleston's past from as far back as the Colonial era. As a preserved plantation, this historical landmark has withstood the test of time through the American Revolution, Antebellum era, Civil War, Postbellum period, and now contemporary times. As such a substantial marker of the American past, Charleston visitors can tap into this southern city's rich history. From the African-American Cemetery overlooking the Ashley River to the plantation's magnolia gardens, guests can enjoy breathtaking beauty while uncovering some fascinating facts.
During 2014, Drayton Hall will display Interpretative Panels for the public house tours. These framed works are installed in the main house and feature different periods and points of interest. Whether you want to brush up on your cocktail conversation or bring the little ones for a real-life learning lesson, the visit should prove highly valuable. Talk to an experienced and enthusiastic tour guide about the historical tidbits, or browse the panels for info about African American history, women's history, the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, and much more.
The focus of these panels showcases the Drayton and Bowens families, whose lasting legacy is preserved in today's plantation. Uncover the archaeological artifacts, with traces of lifestyles from long ago. The tour will consist of special samples from the Collections, brought to life by stories from the family diaries and in tact oral histories.
